Ministry at St. Augustine
From the OUTREACH Ministry
Michael Hess
Times are very difficult for many of people in our country, around the world and most especially in our own community. People have lost their homes, their life savings and some have now become homeless and living on the streets. Those once financially secure find themselves in need. I know that times are tough and to keep giving is getting harder and harder, but our own food bank is getting low on supplies to help those less fortunate, those who depend on a meal in order to survive.
To help restore its pantries, the food bank has delivered bins to our fellowship hall. These bins will be at the church for any contributions of non-perishable items that you can make to help those in need. It would be greatly appreciated that when you buy your groceries, you consider buying an extra can or two for the food bank. With your help, we CAN make a difference.
- 100% off all monetary donations go to the food bank –there is not an administrative cost-all workers are volunteers!
- For every $1.00 donated they are able to purchase $7.00 worth of food.
- Their programs help school-aged children by supplying locations to do their homework and receive a hot dinner. Thus creating a safe refuge.
- The Brown Bag program reaches seniors, -supplying 20-25 lb bags worth of food a month to those in need.
These just touch upon the wonderful gifts of this
food ministry. To really get

Habitat for Humanity
I recently visited with Richard Church, the Director of Habitat for Humanity in Aiken. We discussed how St. Augustine of Canterbury can partnership with habitat.
As we did last year, we will probably be helping out on a build at the end of 2009 or early 2010. They are still seeking out partners, so I will keep everyone up to date as the build is announced.
Although we are a mission church, there are opportunities to help in many other areas. Richard mentioned that in addition to a monetary donation, it would be beneficial for all if we became more visible in the organization. Some opportunities are getting involved in a committee such as Fund Raising, the Volunteer Committee, the Home-owner Selection and Support committee or perhaps the Financial Committee. These committees meet only once a month.
